Welcome to this 3-Day intensive workshop, held in-person in Sacramento CA.

The workshop will cover Salimpour Vocabulary (102 formerly known as J1) which focuses on steps, the foundation of improvisation and lots and lots of cymbals!

The workshop is 15 hrs long spread out over 3 days, with optional certification testing held after the workshop on day three (Sunday).

Dates & Time: Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 10am-2pm, opt test at 3pm (approximately 90min). One hour lunch break each day.

Saturday, October 7th
1-4pm

Mozza Masriya-Mozza Masriya is an Iraqi and Egyptian medley of a pop song sung by Amina and Mohammed al Salim.  Just like the song combines Iraqi and Egyptian music styles the choreography combines Iraqi with Egyptian moves.  A fun and playful dance that can be done either as a group or solo.  

Sunday, October 8th
1-4pm

Saidi with Tahtib- This saucy Saidi choreography is with a Tahtib (thick stick rather than cane) usually used by men. The masculine wielding of the Tahtib is countered with feminine, earthy moves. During the class Sabriye will also go into some of the background of the Saidi genre as well as share and draw from her experiences on stage in Egypt.  The choreography is intended as a group dance of an even number of dancers but can easily be adapted as a solo.  The song is Ammouna Fi al Said by Amani and Bassam Yazbek.

Join us for an in-person workshop, covering Salimpour School Fundamentals 100 (formerly Suhaila Level 1). This workshop will cover technique that is fundamental to all styles and genres of bellydance and will undoubtedly raise the level of your dancing!

Optional certification testing will be available after the workshop.

Open to all students this workshop is an introduction to Jamila Salimpour teaching method. The workshop will focus on her vocabulary of movements and signature cymbal technique as well as improvisation skills. Please note while it’s not necessary, it is recommend that students start with Suhaila Level 1 in preparation for Jamila Level 1. After the workshop participants have the option to test for certification in level 1.

Open to all students, this workshop covers the foundational fundamentals of Suhaila’s teaching method. For three days you will be immersed in technique training giving you the tools that you will need to progress with in the program and even in your dance practice in general. At the end of the workshop you have the option to test for certification in level 1.

Nick-named the mother of Belly Dance in America, Jamila's technique sowed the seeds for both American Cabaret and Tribal/Tribal Fusion.  She was the first teacher to break down, and name the steps of what she called "la danse orientale". Have you heard of the 3/4 shimmy, mayas or figure eights? It is thanks to Jamila Salimpour that this terminology exists, and even Egyptian teachers use it. Jamila is also know for her finger cymbal teaching method based on numbers, and for the troupe and show that she created - Bal Anat - which you may have had the chance to see perform in Brussels in April 2018 or October 2016. www.maelledanse.com

There will be 2 workshops to give you a taste of the Suhaila & Jamila formats. All levels welcome, with or without prior experience!

•  Introduction to the Suhaila Salimpour Format: 3 hours to immerse yourself into this unique and revolutionizing technique.  
•  Introdution to the Jamila Salimpour Format: Get to the original roots of not only Tribal Belly dance but also the first known Belly Dance  teaching technique to ever give names to steps and break down finger cymbals.  

April 2nd- 5th Suhaila Salimpour Level 2 Certification Workshop
This workshop is for those planning to or working towards testing for Level 2.  Having passed Suhaila Format Level 1 is a prerequisite for this workshop.
